Man Commits Life To Helping Homeless: How You Can Help HTF!
Nashville is an open city when it comes to caring. With the pamphlet, “Where to find help in Nashville, Tennesse: A guide to Food, Shelter, & other services,” the homeless may have a chance.
Tony Carter, founder of the street ministry Homeless Task Force is doing his part to see that the homeless get a chance to change their circumstances and work on improving their lives. More especially when there are young children alongside a displaced parent. The Homeless Task Force works in conjunction with other charitable organizations to assist in getting a homeless persons basic needs met, according to Carter. The HTF’s objective is to actively find solutions for the homeless by meeting them ”on their own ground” to assess needs and wants. Carter says “our first mission is to provide basic needs such as, bottled water, especially on hot days, and blankets when it’s cold. HTF also provides donated items such as, socks, toothbrushes, and lunches on occassions.
“We try to make good assessments in order to help those who really want to get off the streets will have that opportunity. There are several agencies and programs we can connect them with that are ready to help get them going in the right direction. “ Where to find help in Nashville, Tennesse” provides information to transitional housing, domestic violence shelters and counseling, mental health care, alcohol and drug treatment assistance, and meals for the homeless.
Carter visits several “homeless camps” throughout the city. “There are all kinds of people on the street,” he says. Some choose this lifestyle because they are “free spirits” and refuse to be confined to rules, responsibilities, and walls…then there are those who simply fell on hard times, i.e, lost their jobs, family, and all hope. “There are others who lost loved ones, and the grief was more than they could bear, so they just gave up on life. Then there are those who try to dull the pain of their existence for whatever the cause, with drugs and/or alcohol. ” Carter says what’s really sad is when you see a mother or father with children and the parent feels “beat down by life” and has little to no faith, and has lost hope. This type of dispair filters to the innocent children who are already confused and scared.”
Carter concludes that “we are not giving hand-outs,” just a hand. A hand to help those whove lost hope. Whatever you can do to help HTF is greatly appreciated, whether its volunteering a little of your time, or making any amount of donation, even $5.00 can be put to good use.
